Allergic to Dogs

We have known for a while that Nevaeh is allergic to dogs, but since we don't have a dog and she is pretty much scared of them, she isn't ever really around them. When she is around them she is ok except when she rubs her eyes. If she does rub her eyes, then they get all red and they swell up. When this happens, a dose of Benadryl and some eye drops usually does the trick.

Well, this past week, the kids and I went to my friend, Tina's house. Tina has 2 dogs. We were there for 6 days. While we were there, she was a bit itchy and her eyes got red a couple of times. I gave her some Benadryl but wasn't giving it too her but maybe once a day. She was doing fine. Then we were on our way home yesterday. I stopped in Wickenburg for us to use the restroom when Nevaeh says, "Mommy, look!" She lifts up her shirt and she has hives! Her whole stomach, chest, back and tushy were all red and swollen and splotchy! I didn't have any Benadryl with me so decided to call the Pediatrician and get home as soon as I could.

Well, on the way home, it kept getting worse. It moved up to her neck and her face and down her legs. It was horrible and she just kept itching. So, finally we're almost home and the Pediatrician calls me back tells me to get some Benadryl in her and then give her a bath and if in a couple of hours it hasn't helped to take her into the hospital.

I didn't have a house key so I had to drop by Jason's work to get the garage door opener. After that I got home as soon as I could. I get the kids in the house and go to the medicine cabinet. No Benadryl. Great! So I pack the kids back into the car and head over to CVS. The poor girl looked so bad at this point. It was down to her ankles and her hands and up on her face. She didn't want to go inside and I don't blame her. But I didn't want to leave her in the car so I made her come in. I went and talked to the Pharmacist to make sure that Benadryl was the best thing and to make sure I was giving her the correct dosage. I also got some Aveno anti-itch lotion for her. I got the stuff, got the kids back in the car, and went back home. I got the kids back in the house and gave Nevaeh some Benadryl and turned the bathwater on. But before I had her take a bath, I took some pictures. The poor thing!

I have done almost all of the laundry that we had in Vegas with us. I washed stuffed animals and blankets. I even switched her pillow...not just the case... but the entire pillow. I didn't want there to be dog hair in her pillow and having to deal with it over and over again.

The mystery is however, why did she not get hives on days 1-5 of being there? Isn't it weird that she didn't get them until day 6? Was her body just tired of fighting it so it gave up? I don't know why...does anyone have a guess?

She has been on Benadryl for 2 days now (every 4-6 hours) and it is clearing up. It's not totally gone but it is clearing up. Thank goodness! Hopefully she will be hive free by tomorrow or Monday. Here's to hoping! :-)

Memorial Day Weekend

For Memorial Day weekend, we went camping with the family up to Potato Patch. I was pretty nice...when it wasn't raining... It was good to get out of the city for a couple of days anyway. But, it didn't start out so great. Nilda and I were going to go up on Friday, but due to some car trouble had to turn around a little ways out of Phoenix and go back home. So, we got a truck and headed up Saturday morning. To our surprise, Karlen (our brother) had driven down from Colorado to see us! Jason came down later on Saturday afternoon and we enjoyed sitting around the campfire (and chasing Kohlton).

It was a pretty relaxing weekend. Jason and I took the kids on a little ride in the back of the pickup. Kohlton and Parker were helping Chad and Trish crank their trailer...totally cute!

Kohlton was mad because he couldn't go on the monkey bridge...Poor Kohlton! :-(

Nevaeh, however, had a ton of fun walking on it. It took her a few times to get the hang of it... But after she figured it out she did great.

This was the last weekend we allowed Kohlton to have his pacifier. As soon as we got home, it was taken away! And he is doing pretty good without it. The umbrella wasn't for the rain in this picture. We are redheads... we don't mix well with the sun! :-)

We can't wait to go camping again. But I think the next time will be at the family reunion in Montana over the 4th. So, hopefully I will have a ton fun pictures to share!

Kohlton's Clothes...

So Nevaeh has this thing about wearing Kohlton's clothes... She really likes to do it.
I don't really know why. Maybe it is because he is 3 1/2 years younger than she is and she thinks it's funny that she can fit into them, I don't know. But the other day she saw that he had two sets of the same pair of pajamas and decided that she wanted to wear the same ones he was wearing. I think the size on them is a 2T.
So funny and so cute!

Nevaeh Graduates

My baby graduated!!! Well, from Kindergarten anyway :-) I can't believe that she is going to be a 1st grader next year. That means that I am getting old! Can you find Nevaeh in the picture below? Neither can I. She is there though... in the BACK ROW!!! She is in the back row on the right side... She is behind a kid that is fairly tall... Well since she is short it doesn't take much to overtake her, even when she is standing on the higher step :-) I don't think it was very fair of them to put the shortest kid in the entire Kindergarten in the back row however :-) There are three kinder classes and Nevaeh's class just happened to be standing on the back row is the reason why she was back there. It sure made it hard to get a picture of her.

Part of the program was that they had each kindergartener come up and say what they wanted to be when they grew up. I have video footage of Nevaeh, but it is on Nilda's camera. When I get it from her I will post it. Nevaeh got up and said that she wanted to be a mommy when she grew up... melt my heart! I missed my own school's 8th grade graduation to go to Nevaeh's, but it wasn't a hard choice for me to decide which one was more important. Jason even got some time to come too.

CONGRATS NEVAEH!!!! WE ARE SO PROUD OF YOU!!!!

About Time!!!

HOLY COW!!! It has been a long time since I've blogged. There have been a whole lot of things that have happened since the last time I blogged. And I think that the only way to do this is one thing at a time :-)...

KOHLTON TURNED 2...

I know I posted about this already, but I didn't post any pictures of his birthday. Kohlton is the funniest 2 year old I have ever come across. His personality is awesome! He is so funny and is always trying to make us laugh. One of the cutest things about him lately is that he is shy and has his "shy" face... looking away with a small smile. He is getting so big and in the last few weeks has really started putting sentences together. It is amazing the things that are coming out of his mouth! At Kohlton's birthday party, we sang to him and he covered his face and was embarrassed... totally cute!

He got a blue hummer from his Aunt Nilda that he didn't want to let go of while he was eating his cake... So how does one eat cake and ice cream while holding on to that, oh so very important toy?
Just dig in, of course! Who needs a fork or a spoon? Kohlton just dug right in... no hands! It was pretty funny and he ended up getting pretty messy.
I love the sprinkles hanging off his nose!

EASTER...

Easter was pretty fun this year. Of course, the PE teacher that I am did NOT put any candy in my kids baskets. Maybe that is me being a mean mom, but as Nevaeh says, "candy isn't healthy." :-)

So instead of candy, I get my kids a few toys from the Easter Bunny :-) Toys last longer than candy does anyway ...

After church, we headed over to Nilda's house to have dinner with Shawna and her family. Nilda stuffed some eggs and we hid them around her back yard for a little Easter egg hunt. We had to keep reminding Nevaeh and Hunter to NOT get the eggs that were just sitting around in the grass (those were for Kohlton and Jade). They all had a great time! Inside the eggs was candy, some money, and some tickets for little toys that she had gotten.

Kohlton had a good time looking for the eggs, but didn't really get the concept of it. Every time he would find an egg, he would stop and open it and try to eat or play with what was inside. I kept having to urge him on to look for more eggs.

While we were taking the picture of all the kids, Jade kept reaching into Kohlton's basket and eating the candy. Kohlton didn't even notice :-)

After we had our hunt and dinner was all cleaned up, we got the eggs out for the kids to dye. I didn't bring clothes that Nevaeh could get dirty, so I stripped her down to dye the eggs. Not only did the kids have fun dying eggs, but the adults did as well.
